Death's Law is the third in the Tales of the Bard trilogy, following Magician's Law and Demon's Law. Kutor has the throne, but the people are unhappy, too many refugees are crowding the city and the nobles are conspiring to kill him.

One of the nobles, The Lady Esse has created vampires and her allies are attempting to frame the missing Bard for the failed assassination. While Owen and Tien tZo try to hunt down the conspirators, the vampires hunt in the city.

Meanwhile the deposed Emperor Geillard is in the North, allied with the Chopts and the Torc Alta, and Paedur must find some way of stopping them before they overrun the boundary and destroy the town of Bards, Baddalaur. The New Religion is trying to wipe out knowledge by destroying books and if they succeed, the Old Faith will die.

Paedur must seek strange allies and create new myths if he and the Old Faith are to survive the final battle with the New Religion.
